Scholarships for Local Students

Post 355 will be giving away six scholarships this coming year to Ft. Loramine High School Seniors. Parents and grandparents, please let your related children aware or these scholarships. Below is the following individuals who will qualify.

$4000 to whoever has the highest score on the Americanism Test.

$3000 to whoever has the second highest score on the Americanism Test

$1000 to an individual going into the military.

$1000 to an individual going into the trades.

$1000 to an individual based on patriotism.

Legion Dues

American Legion and Sons dues will be $30 until November 1. You have to pay at the Canteen to get the $10 discount. If you pay online the cost will be $40. The Ft. Loramie Post is offering this discount to members and Sons. Both groups' dues must be paid at the bar. The American National Headquarters has not sent out annual notices of dues payment. Notices will be coming out in the future.

Legion Tidbits

A style show was held on March 5, 1972, for the benefit of the youth of the area. Over three hundred women paid admission to see the latest clothes modeled by local talent. $370.00 was raised for the cause. (Don Wendeln).

PLAQUE INFORMATION

The post has started a program to purchase plaques for Veterans who don't qualify for the VA Plaque. This will be mostly members who served in the National Guard and Army Reserve. The qualifications are as follows:

MUST BE A MEMBER OF POST 355 FOR AT LEAST TWO YEAR

APPLIES ONLY IF MEMBER IS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR PLAQUE FROM VA

PERSON REQUESTING MUST APPLY FOR THE BENEFIT WITHIN TWO YEAR OF HIS/HER PASSING

PROVIDE DD214 IF VETERAN HAS ONE APPLICATION ATTACHED

Legion Tidbits

During the year 1971 – 1972, Post 355 was forced to raise its membership dues from $6.50 to $8.00. This was passed by a vote of the membership at our regular meeting on October 12, 1971. (Don Wendeln).
